About the Opportunity

The Shire of Denmark’s Planning Team is responsible for the sustainable and responsible development of all land within the Shire. 

This high performing team deals with a wide range of interesting planning matters to help shape the future of Denmark’s residents and visitors.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be an effective communicator with the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders including colleagues, the Shire’s community and consultants.
  • Be capable of making sound decisions in a logical and lawful manner; and
  • Have excellent research and investigation skills to support you in the completion of your tasks.

 Some of the Responsibilities of this Role includes:

  • Process and evaluate subdivision, development, rezoning and structure planning proposals, provide advice and issue approvals.
  • Assist in the review and updating of the Shire of Denmark Local Planning Framework including the Local Planning Strategy, Scheme, Planning Policies, Structure Plans and associated documents.
  • Lead, or contribute to, land use planning related projects.
  • Prepare reports to Council on a variety of land use planning matters.
  • Provide information to ratepayers, builders, and developers on land use planning related issues within operating guidelines and procedures, emphasizing customer service and education.
  • Undertake investigations into complaints about land use planning matters, including compliance audits of development approval conditions.
  • Provide a high-level of customer service both internally and externally, whilst supporting connection with our diverse community.

About You: 

  • Experience in applying planning principles and applicable legislation.
  • Tertiary qualification (or substantial progress towards) in land use planning or a related profession.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed research, report writing skills and computer skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Demonstrates high-level customer service, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of a local government authority in regard to town planning matters.
