Zero Carbon Energy
Zero Carbon Energy is a Sustainability Pillar in our Sustainability Strategy 2021 - 2031. The relevant key principle is: 'Committing to working towards a net zero emissions target is an important step in tackling climate change'. Our objectives related to this pillar are:
- Embrace the role of a leader in the community by reducing carbon emissions
- Aim for the Shire to reduce carbon emissions by half by 2030, and carbon neutral/net zero emissions by 2050
- Support community projects and industry that promote renewable energy resource use

What We're Doing
Some current and recent projects related to the Zero Carbon Energy pillar include:
- The Shire of Denmark has had solar panels installed on its Administration Building since 2012
- The Shire subscribes to an environmental scorekeeper service, to collect and report the energy and water performance data for the Shire’s assets. The subscription allows us to proactively manage our energy and water consumption and costs to make quick decisions, identify basic performance problems and opportunities to improve performance.
-
The Shire has partnered with Totally Renewable Denmark to develop Home Energy Audit Kits! You can book a Home Energy Audit Kit to identify appliances that are high energy users, when your home is using the most power, and areas in your home that could use more insulation or are leaking cold air.
The Home Energy Audit Kit project is proudly supported by Totally Renewable Denmark and the Shire of Denmark's Sustainability Environmental Education Program
