Sustainable Travel & Transport

Sustainable Travel and Transport is a Sustainability Pillar in our Sustainability Strategy 2021 - 2031. The relevant key principle is: 'Sustainable or Green Transport aims to limit the reliance on diminishing natural resources that leave a high carbon footprint'.  Our objectives related to this pillar are:

  • Reduce the carbon footprint for the fleet of corporate vehicles
  • Planning developments to include infrastructure and design considerations for alternate modes of transport
  • Fund innovative technologies for sustainable and green transport options
  • Promote programs that will see reduced reliance on fossil fuel transport
  • Support adaptation to sustainable best practice transport options in the community

What We're Doing

Some current and recent projects related to the Sustainable Travel and Transport pillar include:

  • Our fleet of corporate vehicles is transitioning away from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles
  • An public electric vehicle charger was installed on Hollings Road near Berridge Park in 2023
  • Our Councillors and staff have use of an e-bike to travel into town for meetings and appointments from the Shire Administration Building
  • A commuter carpark is available just east of town on South Coast Highway, between the Shire Administration Building and the Denmark Country Club
