The Shire of Denmark’s Berridge Park Precinct Development project is now fully funded after an additional $2,197,666 was awarded by the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program and following the announcement of a Lotterywest grant of $2,857,500 and $697,666 from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund awarded last year.
This means all the features in the concept plan can become a reality, such as much-needed improvements to public and youth recreational spaces whilst retaining the existing mature trees and quiet spaces loved by our residents.
This will maintain and enhance the park's existing sense of place in the local landscape and create an all-ages recreational space, central to our community.
Shire President Kingsley Gibson said, thanks to the State and Federal Governments, the project can now be taken through to completion in its entirety.
“This contribution to the Berridge Park redevelopment means we can fully realise a project that will best serve our community’s needs,” Cr Gibson said.
The concept plan includes the creation of a new all-ages playground and skate park to draw our youth back to the centre of our town, a multi-purpose court and bouldering wall, integrated art and cultural elements that are reflective of, and educate people about our Shire, new accessible public amenities and seating and shade structures to create a space for everyone to enjoy.
Cr Gibson said, “there’s real anticipation for what the project will deliver, and the design guidelines formally adopted by Council late last year will ensure the elements our community told us they want, such as improved accessibility, inclusivity and durability are at the forefront of the design.”
Preliminary site investigations have already commenced with the aim to go out for tender on the project in February and once a contract for design and construction is awarded, the all-important detailed design stage will commence which will allow for the fullest incorporation of the concept plan that is based on community consultation.
“It’s exciting to now be able to create an inclusive, accessible space that will become an integral part of our town for future generations.”
Community can expect to see construction commence later this year, with further details about project timelines and milestones to be released in due course.
