As the weather warms up this spring, the Shire of Denmark is urging residents to take the necessary steps to prepare for the on-coming bushfire season.
Last month, ratepayers received their annual Firebreak and Fuel Management Notice accompanied by a letter encouraging community members to make their Bushfire Plans and educate themselves with available resources before the high-threat period begins.
In addition to online resources and assistance available from Shire Rangers and Fire Compliance Officer, the Shire-supported Bushfire Ready program is running its second annual Bushfire Ready Weekend from 3 – 5 November 2023, with a program packed to the brim with events and activities designed to assist community members to get prepared and educated ahead of the bushfire season.
The weekend kicks off with a Bushfire Ready Sundowner hosted by the Dam at 5pm on Friday 3 November to launch the bushfire preparation season, followed by a Community Information Day at the Civic Centre at 1pm on Saturday 4 November, featuring workshops on how to prepare your property, creating your plan and more.
On Sunday 5 November, community members are invited to check out a bit of friendly competition with Bushfire Ready Brigade Games for a bit of fun on the Denmark Senior High School Oval from 10am.

The Shire of Denmark is the only Local Government in WA to financially support a local Bushfire Ready program and is proud to be a supporter of the grassroots community preparedness program.
Bushfire Ready is bolstered by other local preparedness and mitigation initiatives undertaken by the Shire and community volunteers to reduce the risk of bushfire in the district.
Ahead of summer, community members are also reminded to get into the daily habit of checking the Daily Fire Danger Rating, Total Fire Ban, controlled burns and bushfires by visiting www.emergency.wa.gov.au, to consider subscribing to the Shire of Denmark SMS alert system and to make a Bushfire Plan before it’s too late.
