Budding birdwatchers can now borrow one of three new birdwatching kits from the Denmark Public Library.
The kits include quality binoculars, bird watching field guides and information on bird species and birdwatching sites in and around the Denmark area.
The Library has also partnered with the Denmark Bird Group to host all-ages information sessions, so interested community members can learn more about the local and visiting bird population.
“The timing of the arrival of these kits couldn’t be more perfect, with the annual Aussie Bird Count on last week, nation-wide,” Senior Librarian Robyn Fairclough said.
“We hosted our first information session during school holidays and we were very pleased with the number of families who came along, eager to try out the new kits.”
The kits were funded by The Learning for a Better World (LBW) Trust and Friends of Libraries Australia.
“Given that our most borrowed book for 2023 was Birds of Western Australia by Simon Neville, I am confident that the kits will be well utilised,” Ms Fairclough said.
“We would also like to acknowledge the kind contribution of Introducing the Birds of Denmark (WA) by John Anderson and also the Pocket Field Guide to Birdlife of Western Australia by Michael Morcombe, author of well-regarded field guides to Western Australian birds. Michael and John were keen for their books to be included in the kits so they will be available to the communities, especially children, through the library.”
“The kits are suitable for adults and younger library members, and we hope that they will encourage borrowers to get out and about and learn about our local wildlife.”
