Changes to Energy Efficiency Requirements for Building Permits – Effective 1 May 2025

Published on Monday, 31 March 2025 at 3:37:00 PM

Following the WA Government’s announcement, the updated National Construction Code (NCC) energy efficiency requirements will come into effect on the 1st May 2025, increasing the minimum standard for new residential buildings to a 7-star energy rating.

Applicants submitting a building permit application to the Shire of Denmark on or after 1 May 2025 must ensure their design meets this new 7-star standard for Energy Efficiency.

To avoid delays, applicants are encouraged to submit complete applications as early as possible.

Incomplete applications received before the deadline may still be lodged but will be subject to further information requests before assessment can proceed.

If an application is lodged before 1st May, the current requirements will apply, even if additional information is requested later.

The Shire of Denmark Principal Building Surveyor is available to answer questions and offer assistance on 9848 0300 or enquiries@denmark.wa.gov.au.

More information on planning and building within the Shire of Denmark can be found on the Planning and Building Services page on our website.
