Denmark Shire Council last night voted to progress to detailed design for the Ocean Beach upgrade project after a rescoped concept was tabled at the November Ordinary Council Meeting.
Initial concept designs for the Ocean Beach precinct upgrade were re-imagined after additional external funding opportunities were not forthcoming.
The new concept, which will now proceed to the next stage of the process (detailed design), is reliant on committed funding from LotteryWest, the WA State Government, the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club and the Shire of Denmark.
By voting to progress to the next stage of design, Council is committing to the long-term protection of the Surf Life Saving Club building for the next 20 years, while enhancing and increasing the public realm area available to community members and visitors.
Shire of Denmark Chief Executive Officer David Schober said the Shire is looking forward to the opportunity to deliver an exciting project for the community at Ocean Beach.
“We’re incredibly thankful to the committed funding bodies for their support of this project,” Mr Schober said.
“We look forward to getting to work on the next stage of this process to move us closer to an improved community and visitor experience at Ocean Beach.”
The re-imaged project scope includes a refurbishment of the Surf Life Saving Club building, in addition to a new public amenity building, a new storage building and public realm enhancements.
Community members can expect, after the design process has concluded, for works to likely get underway in Winter 2023.
