Funding Win for Shire of Denmark’s Bushfire Preparedness

The Shire of Denmark has successfully secured $193,050 from the State Government’s Mitigation Activity Fund to go towards 47 bushfire mitigation treatments in the Shire of Denmark this year.

Thanks to on-going advocacy efforts, the Shire of Denmark has received funding to carry out the largest amount of approved bushfire mitigation projects of all 15 WA Local Governments that received funding for 2025.

It means the Shire can continue its annual work to reduce the risk of bushfire across the district.

Treatments funded through the Mitigation Activity Fund are strategically identified as priority areas based on the level of risk and work in combination with a larger mitigation effort locally, including annual works carried out by the Shire’s Parks and Reserves team, hazard reduction efforts by State Government departments and the work done by private property owners to be compliant with the annual Firebreak and Fuel Management Notice.

Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said it takes a whole of community effort to reduce the bushfire risk locally.

“When we work together combining the efforts of residents, Local Government and State Government, we can significantly reduce the threat to lives and homes in our Shire,” Cr Gibson said.

“We are pleased to have been successful in our application for funding to address so many priority projects this year, and I’m also pleased to hear from our Ranger Services team that property inspections for compliance with the annual Firebreak and Fuel Management Notice are going well so far, with 85% of inspected properties compliant.”

“I thank all our residents for taking the bushfire risk in our Shire seriously this year.”

Cr Gibson also urged residents who are not already members of Bushfire Ready Groups to consider joining their local group or to consider joining a Bush Fire Brigade.
