Earlier this month, the Shire of Denmark was awarded a Lotterywest grant of $2,857,500 to deliver a major revitalisation of Berridge Park.
The exciting news comes in addition to the $1.5 million already committed by the Shire of Denmark and $697,666 awarded by the State Government from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.
With more than $5 million committed to the project, Shire officers are now full steam ahead, with the next step to turn the concept plan into a detailed design before works commence in 2025.
A concept plan for the future of Berridge Park was adopted by Council in February this year, following community consultation to shape the proposed design.
The approved concept plan features much-needed improvements to public and youth recreational infrastructure while retaining the existing mature trees loved by our community and quiet spaces to retain and enhance the park's existing sense of place in the landscape.
The hope is to create an intergenerational space that members of our community, young and old, can enjoy and be proud of.
Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said securing such strong financial support for a project of this type so quickly was remarkable.
“It is testament to the community-focused design process, particularly the input from our youth. As a result, the overwhelming community support for the design was a key point in the Shire’s advocacy to funding bodies and I’ve no doubt was a big contributor to our success.”
“All of this means that we can build what our community envisioned and that is the best of outcomes. Now let’s get to it!”
Further details about project timelines and milestones will be released in due course.
