The Shire of Denmark is thanking beachgoers for their patience following the recent completion of the first stage of works to reinforce the Denmark Surf Live Saving Club buildings at Ocean Beach.
Following a storm erosion event last year, infrastructure at the popular community and tourist location was threatened.
With stage one of works now complete, plans are in place to commence the next steps which will include the installation of temporary access to the beach as quickly as possible.
“Thanks to the hard work of local contractors and with professional advice from coastal engineers, we’re glad to be in a position to let the community know the first stage of work at Ocean Beach is complete,” Shire of Denmark Deputy CEO David King said.
“Right now, we acknowledge there are rocks and boulders in the area which aren’t perfectly tidy and we’re keen to assure the community that we’ll be getting to work on tidying up the area as soon as we can, weather and contractor availability permitting.”
“This will also include improving beach access, with a temporary structure set to be constructed as soon as possible.”
“In the meantime, the reinforcements to the seawall are in place to do their job as winter sets in which is great news for our community.”
Shire officers are in the process of working closely with the local surf club on a reworked redevelopment proposal for the Ocean Beach precinct which is expected to be tabled with Council in the coming months.
