A local contractor has now been engaged to deliver the construction of an important shared path extension from the Denmark Cemetery to Woodward Heights at Springdale.

Works are due to get started in January 2025. The project is jointly funded by the Shire of Denmark and the State Government as part of the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program, together with a contribution from LWP Denmark Syndicate.

The 780m shared path extension will be located on the south side of South Coast Highway, wide enough to facilitate safe shared use, allowing for safe pedestrian and bicycle access from Springdale all the way into the Denmark townsite.

A formal crossover on the highway will be located in the 60kph zone near the entrance to the Denmark Cemetery.

Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said this important footpath extension will make a big difference to a large part of our community.

“Residents in the Springdale area will be able to make the most of this new path to safely access town on foot or on bikes without the danger of being on a major road,” Cr Gibson said.

“The more we can facilitate the use of sustainable transport methods the better, and we’re really pleased to be looking at having this important piece of infrastructure completed before the end of the financial year.”

The project is due for completion in April 2025.
