One of our community Objectives is to enhance community connection and well-being so we can work towards our Commitment of protecting what makes us special, improving our quality of life and planning for future generations. Ensuring we do what we can to make our community as inclusive and accessible as possible is a fundamental part of this.

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan
The Disability Access & Inclusion Plan (2018-2023) assists the Shire of Denmark to make its services and facilities equitable and accessible for people with disability. Under the Disability Services Act 1993, every local and state government agency must develop a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.
The current plan has seven outcome areas. They are:
- All people with disability have the same opportunities as other people to access the services of, and events organised by, the Shire of Denmark.
- People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to access the buildings and other facilities of the Shire of Denmark.
- People with disability receive information from the Shire of Denmark in a format that will enable them to access the information as readily as other people are able to access it.
- People with disability receive the same level and quality of service from the staff of the Shire of Denmark as other people receive from the Shire of Denmark.
- People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to make complaints to the Shire of Denmark.
- People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to participate in any public consultation by the Shire of Denmark.
People with a disability have the same opportunities as other people to obtain and maintain employment with the Shire of Denmark.
The Shire of Denmark's DAIP is currently under review.

Access and Inclusion Services Information
The major project happening in the Shire of Denmark with regard to Access and Inclusion in 2023/24 is the review of our Disability, Access and Inclusion Plan.

Beach Wheelchairs
Council has two Beach Wheelchairs that are available to hire, free of charge - one at Parry Beach and one at Ocean Beach.
Beach Wheelchairs (or Beach Trekkers) are designed to transport a person with disability easily across all terrains from soft loose beach sand to hard surfaces and into the water.
Parry Beach
Bookings and use of the Trekker at Parry Beach is managed by the Parry Beach Voluntary Management Group (PBVMG). To book or find out further information regarding use and booking, please contact the Parry Beach Campground Caretaker on 0427 641 524.
Ocean Beach
Bookings and use of the Trekker at Ocean Beach is managed by the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club (DSLSC) and is available typically only when the beach is being patrolled. To book or find out further information regarding use and booking, please contact the Club on 0432 955 436.

First Nations Support
The Shire of Denmark rests on Minang and Bibbulmun Noongar Country.
The lands and waters within the bounds of our Shire were cared for and managed by Traditional Custodians for thousands of years before our Local Government came into existence. The Shire of Denmark respectfully acknowledges those many, many generations of on-going custodianship, we extend our deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and we welcome their guidance and counsel.
Our Local Government is a proud member of Reconciliation WA and our Council voted to formally accept the Uluru Statement from the Heart in October 2022 as an open invitation to the Australian people from First Nations Australians to walk together to a better future.
Reconciliation, advocacy, mental health and other support services are available for First Nations Australians and their allies.

Awards and Grants
Every member of our community contributes something individual and special to the fabric of life here in the Shire of Denmark. In acknowledgement of those important contributions to community life, the Shire of Denmark Community Citizen of the Year award is presented to a worthy community member each year.
