The Denmark Recreation Centre offers something for everyone!
You can stay healthy and active in our gym and group fitness sessions or enjoy the social aspect of our sports. Court space is available for private hire and club use. Our function room is suitable for events, meetings and seminars.
Sports hall signage can also be utilised to advertise your business from $325 per year (conditions apply, excludes cost of sign).

Gym and Fitness
Our gym has a range of functional equipment, machine and free weights, cardio equipment and floor space for patrons. We also offer a range of group fitness session for various ages and fitness abilities.
Our gymnasium has a range of equipment to suit all users from treadmills, recumbent bicycles, cross trainers and elliptical trainers for aerobic exercise, to olympic bars, free weights and dumbells for strength. After-hours access available to members only (conditions apply).
Note: 14 - 15 year olds may attend classes/supervised gym with parental permission.

Classes and Timetable
The Denmark Recreation Centre provides a range of fitness classes and gym sessions to suit various levels of fitness and mobility. If you are attending a class for the first time, we recommend you arrive 10 minutes early so you can introduce yourself to our qualified instructors.
All classes are held in the function room or courts unless otherwise stated.

Class Descriptions

Balls and Bands
|
A low impact class that uses fitballs and resistance bands to improve the core, balance, flexibility and strength.
|
Body Stretch
|
Improve your flexibility and release tightness through a serious of body movements designed to increase your mobility. The session ends with a brief relaxation and meditation. Suitable for all ages and fitness abilities.
|
Boxing
|
A medium to high intensity class that utilises glove/pad combos and bodyweight movements to provide a well-rounded workout. It is a high intensity class that is designed to improve overall fitness.
|
Chair Yoga
|
A gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting. Some poses can be done using a chair for support. Chair Yoga can improve flexibility, concentration and strength whilst boosting your mood. Suitable for all ages and fitness abilities.

HIIT30
|
A thirty minute high intensity interval training workout. Strength uses barbell and weights. Cardio uses body weight/step.
|
Living Legends Gym Sessions
|
These supervised gym sessions take place in the gymnasium. Participants are guided through their programs by a qualified trainer. To attend the Living Legends gym session you must arrange a one on one appraisal ($70).
|
Pilates 1
|
Suitable for beginners. These classes are designed to build a strong foundation in the Pilates method, based on the classical exercises.
|
Pilates 2
|
Suitable for those who have attended Pilates 1 and are looking for a more dynamic and challenging series of pilates based exercises that aim to strengthen muscles whilst improving postural alignment and flexibility.
|
Power Bar
|
A medium to high impact class that uses a barbell and hand weights applying the repetition method to build strength and tone.
|
Sweat and Shred
|
Held in the functional area of the gym, this high intensity circuit style workout uses strength and cardio exercises to improve athletic fitness.
|
Supervised Gym Sessions
|
Our supervised gym sessions are open for all members to attend (including 14-15 year olds). Our qualified trainer is available to offer exercise advice and supervised use of the equipment. Suitable for all ages and fitness abilities.
|
Weight It Out
|
Using a light barbell and weights, this class involves low impact movements to improve overall strength. Suitable for all ages and fitness abilities.
|
Yoga
|
This class incorporates warming yoga flow, opening asanas and savasana for strength and flexibility leaving you feeling revitalised and relaxed.
|
Personal Training
Denmark Recreation Centre members can contact our friendly Recreation Services team for information about personal training services available to members.
For non-members, the Introductory PT Program Package costs $175, including an initial one on one consultation, personalised four week self guided program, one on one PT session and program walk through.
Additional one hour sessions are available at a cost of $70.00 (one on one) or $103 (small group up to 4). Contact the Recreation Services team for more information or to make a booking for our Creche Services.

It’s super easy to become a member at the Denmark Recreation Centre, just pop by the front desk during Opening Hours to complete a short application and gym induction.

Please read the Gymnasium Conditions of Use before attending the gym for the first time.
Gymnasium Conditions of Use
- Only members or paying casual gym users are permitted to use the gymnasium.
- Persons aged 14 – 15 years may only attend under the supervision of a parent, guardian or registered gym supervisor who is over 18 years of age.
- After hours access is available to members only (must be 16 years of age and over to receive a FOB Key).
- Members under 16 years of age may attend after hours ONLY with written permission by the manager and accompanied by a parent/guardian (who must also be a member).
- Persons under the age of 14 are not permitted into the gymnasium without prior authority.
- Patrons must bring a towel and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
- Please wipe down your equipment after use with disinfectant wipes supplied.
- This is a shared facility, and we ask that you show respect and courtesy to other members in the gym.
- Please ensure you take care when using the equipment and pack away all equipment after use.
- If you are unsure how to use a piece of gym equipment please ask one of our staff members or trainers during supervised gym sessions.

Sports Club Support
We can assist community groups to access information and to provide support for club development.
If you need assistance with fund raising, volunteer recruitment and retention, diversity and inclusion and other areas, our Community Clubs Officer may be able to assist you. If you require a letter of support from the Shire, please complete the online form two-weeks before your deadline.
Upcoming events dedicated to upskilling clubs are listed below.
KidSport
KidSport is available to children between 5 and 18 years who are named on a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, with up to $500 available per child, per financial year.
The KidSport program provides financial assistance to families to ensure all kids have the opportunity to participate in sport, remain physically active and build long lasting friendships.

Could your club be a KidSport Club? Clubs can register to the KidSport program to help families access the benefits of financial assistance. Our Club Development Officer can assist your club with navigating the registration process.

Sportsperson of the Year Awards
The Sportsperson of the Year Awards recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to local sports in areas such as fundraising, volunteer service, umpiring, coaching, sportsmanship and individual sporting achievements. Nominations are now being called in the following categories: Service to Sport, Junior Sportsperson of the Year and Senior Sportsperson of the Year.

Key Dates
Nominations usually open in March with the winners announced in May at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Function.

Eligibility
1. A person must first be nominated to be considered for the awards. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
2. Nominations will only be accepted on an official nomination form.
3. A person may only be nominated for one category per nomination form.
4. Nominees must have a significant connection to Denmark, and be a person who resides, trains, coaches, participates or represents a club within the Shire of Denmark and be:
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year category (under 18 years as at 31 March.)
- Senior Sportsperson of the Year category (18 years and over as at 31 March.)
- Service to Sport Category (All ages)
5. Nominations for a person who resides outside the Shire but participates in sport within the Shire will be accepted.
GUIDELINES
Sportsperson of the Year (Junior and Senior)
This award recognises athletes who have achieved outstanding results with respect to performance/s during the past 12 months.
Assessments will be based on the nominees' personal achievements and behaviour;
- Nominees must have achieved a level of outstanding performance in their chosen sport and will be judged on their achievements in the 12 months prior to the nomination.
- Nominees may have been selected to represent their chosen sport at a regional, state or national level.
- Nominees will have inspiring qualities as a sporting role model, demonstrating behaviours such as sportsmanship, fair play, respect and integrity.
Service to Sport Award
The Service to Sport Award recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to sport or to their sporting club through outstanding service.
Criteria on which the award will be judged includes:
- An individual (does not need to be a resident of the Shire) who has made a significant voluntary contribution to benefit a sporting or recreational organisation operating within the Shire of Denmark.
- The nominees time and effort is above the standard expected of any citizen (hours of time volunteered, range of tasks undertaken or length of service) and sets an example to others;.
- A long-term involvement in and commitment to their sport at various levels.
- A demonstrated legacy of the nominee's contribution.
Council will determine successful nominees and be kept strictly confidential until the award presentation.
Successful nominees will receive an individual acknowledgement and a prize of $100.00 will be awarded to the winner's club or a local club nominated by the successful nominee (should the nominee not be a member of a club).
Presentation of the Awards will be held at a at a Volunteers Appreciation event held in May.
